John K. Sargent, Jr., CFA President and Managing Director
Investment experience since 1990
John joined Middleton & Company in 1993 and has responsibilities in both portfolio management and investment research. He enjoys working with families and institutions to help them articulate their long-term objectives and construct an investment portfolio to address their specific financial and broader investment goals. John works as a member of the Investment Committee to support the firm’s investment strategy, generate new investment ideas, and has helped to develop the firm’s venture/private equity offerings.
John graduated magna cum laude in Economics from Princeton University. He is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Society Boston, the CFA Institute and the Boston Economic Club.
Prior to joining Middleton, he spent several years at Corporate Decisions, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in the development of profitable growth strategies for large, multinational clients.
John is currently Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the South Shore Christian Academy, and has served in numerous capacities at his church and with youth activities.
Alice K. Walsh, CFP Chairman of the Board and Managing Director

Ali came to Middleton & Company in 1995 from her own financial consulting company, where she worked with corporate, government, and individual clients. She has more than 38 years of experience in the field of personal investment counseling. Prior to her own firm, Ali was a Trust Officer at Bank of Boston for 10 years. A Certified Financial Planner, Ali holds a B.A. and M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She is a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council, the Financial Planning Association, the CFA Society Boston, and the CFA Institute.
Maria McCormack, CFA Chief Compliance Officer and Managing Director
Investment experience since 1985
Maria manages investment portfolios for individuals, families, trusts, and charitable institutions. As Chief Compliance Officer, she oversees the firm’s policies and procedures to ensure adherence with the Investment Advisors Act. Maria is a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Middleton & Company, Maria worked at David L. Babson & Company and Boston Trust and Investment Management Company in various roles including portfolio manager, equity analyst, economic researcher and securities trader. She earned her B.A. in Economics at Boston College and her M.B.A. from Boston University. Maria is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Society Boston, the CFA Institute, and the Boston Economic Club. She is also a manager of the Boston Port and Seamen’s Aid Society.
Eric N. Gutterson, CFA Chief Investment Officer and Managing Director

Eric joined Middleton in 2010 and has portfolio managment responsibility for individuals, families and foundations. He is a member of the Investment Committee and serves as the firm’s equity analyst for the Energy Sector. Eric holds a B. A. from Middlebury College and is a CFA® charterholder. He is a member of the CFA Society Boston, the CFA Institute, and the Boston Economic Club.
Prior to joining Middleton, Eric was a Senior Portfolio Manager for BNY Mellon Private Wealth Management where he also managed portfolios for individuals, families and foundations. He is a Trustee Emeritus of the Westwood Public Library and currently serves as Treasurer of Redeemer Community Church.
Robert Bruch, Jr., CFA Director of Research and Portfolio Manager
Investment experience since 2008
Rob joined the firm at the beginning of 2013 as an equity research analyst and is responsible for the Consumer Discretionary, Industrial and Healthcare sectors. As Director of Research, he is also responsible for overseeing the research efforts in all of the sectors, and he has helped introduce tools to aid in stock selection and portfolio management.
Prior to Middleton & Company, Rob was a senior associate for a firm in Connecticut, advising clients in the chemical industry on M&A transactions and investing for the firm. Rob graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an M.B.A. from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Society Boston.
Patricia M. Schneider, CFA Senior Portfolio Manager

Patricia is responsible for managing the investment needs of individuals, families and charitable organizations, developing customized investment strategies designed to meet specific client objectives. She has more than fifteen years of experience working with clients and their advisors to address financial and broader long-term goals such as income preservation, lifestyle, family governance, charitable interests, and wealth transition. As a member of the Investment Committee, Patricia has a particular interest in helping to further develop Middleton & Company’s efforts in the area of Sustainable and Responsible Investing.
Patricia joined Middleton & Company from BNY Mellon Wealth Management where she was a senior portfolio manager working with multi-generational families, individuals, foundations and endowments. At BNY Mellon she was a member of the Trust Administrative Committee for New England and various investment committees including the Alternative Strategy Committee. Prior to 1998, she worked with institutional clients for Mellon Financial Global Security Services.
Patricia graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management with double majors in Accounting and Organizational Behavior. She is a CFA® charterholder and is a member of the CFA Society Boston, the Boston Economic Club and the CFA Institute.
Residing outside of Boston, Patricia lives with her husband, two children and their rescue dog. In her free time, she is actively involved in her children’s extra-curricular activities, volunteers in her town and serves as a mentor in the CFA Boston Mentorship Program.
Donna joined Middleton & Company in the Summer of 2017 having spent twenty-eight years as a wealth and portfolio manager at both large private banking institutions – BNY Mellon and Bank of America – and small boutique investment and fiduciary firms – Boston Financial Management and Winslow Wealth Management. Donna works with families and estates, individuals, foundations and endowments, specializing in the management of trusts and compensation plans. Donna graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management with both undergraduate and graduate degrees with a concentration in accounting and finance.
